Sir
Through this letter, I
would like to draw your kind attention to brutality of police
against innocent people in our area.
Ours is one of the poorest localities of the
city and most of the people here are slum-dwellers. Last evening, two of your
constables came here, picked three boys playing in the street, and started
beating them mercilessly. When I tried to ask them what wrong the boys had
done, they rained a couple of blows on me also. They took the boys to the
police station and again beat them black and blue. A man in the police station
had come to report that his pocket had been picked. Your policemen suspected
those boys of having picked the man's pocket. But just then another policeman
came in with a boy from whom the man's purse was recovered. Now your policemen
had no explanation to give.
Therefore I request you
to look into this matter and do the needful.

2. Imagine that you are a resident of Alipur,
Outer Delhi. After reading a write about the day-light robbery and murder in
the town, write a letter to the Superintendent of Police expressing your strong
views against the lawlessness that is prevailing in your area. Using ideas from
the write-up, together with your own ideas, complete this letter in your own
words.
The

Alipur (Delhi), 10 Sept. 2010. A daring robbery
took place at 10.30 a.m. in the Laxmi Bank of Commerce at Alipur. In an
exchange of fire between the security guard and the robbers, a young lady was
killed on the spot. This is the fourth bank robbery in Alipur within a year.
Drinking-and gambling at public places and eve-teasing have become a common
feature of its cultural life. The helpless residents have lost faith in the
local police. A delegation of senior citizens met the Chief Minister yesterday
and apprised her of the lawlessness and Vandalism prevailing in the area.

Alipur.
Sir
Through this letter i would like to draw your
kind attention to the complete lawlessness in our area.
Robberies and murders have become a part and
parcel of Alipur town. The recent broad day-light robbery and murder have sent
shock waves among all the peace loving citizens of this area.
The bank robbery took place at 10.30 a.m. in the
heart of the town. It is at a stone's throw from the police station. This
incident clearly shows the inefficiency of the local police in maintaining law
and order. Three young men armed with weapons entered the bank. One of them led
the manager to the Bank's chest. The two others herded all the employees in the
strong-room. They started firing in the air. The security guard fired at the
robbers. A young lady got trapped in a volley of shots. She was killed on the
spot.
I hope the local police will develop a
comprehensive strategy to crush lawlessness in the area. Only sincere efforts
of the police can restore confidence among the residents.

Sir
Through this letter I would like to draw your
kind attention to the illegal constructions and encroachments on green belt
area in the city.
A vast stretch of green belt was left for an
'Entertainment Zone’ and a public park. Unfortunately, no steps were taken to
develop that 'Entertainment Zone'. The public park didn't get the required care
and attention either. Some land facing the Ring Road in Block B has been
encroached upon by the residents. They have extended their kitchen gardens
right into the public land. Even the open space left for the public park in
Block C has become an easy prey to open plunder.
I request you on behalf of the residents of
Green Acres to demolish these encroachments. You must take exemplary action
against the plunderers of the public land.

Sir
Through this letter I would like to draw your
kind attention to the inadequate parking facilities in the
Commercial Street area of Bangalore
The growing number of vehicles has caused a
great inconvenience to the residents of this area. This area is known for the
biggest business centres of Bangalore. The number of vehicles swells to an
unmanageable limit during the peak hours. Parking facilities are totally
inadequate. It has made the place cramped and jampacked. The law of jungle
operates here.
Providing adequate parking facilities in the
area should be given the top priority. There should be a traffic control-room
to regulate the traffic. Heavy-duty vehicles must be banned during the peak
hours.
I hope all these suggestions would be given due
consideration. Prompt steps will be taken to ease the situation at the
earliest.

Through this letter I would like to draw your
kind attention to the indecent behaviour of the KSTC bus conductors. They have
developed a working culture style which is repelling to sensitive and refined
persons. They consider that all the passengers are liars and cheats.
Women and young girls are the special target of
their indecency. An incident describe their ethics and working culture. I
lodged a complaint to the conductor of bus no 26. A male passenger was
occupying a seat reserved for ladies. I expected him to help me in getting that
seat. I was shocked and surprised. Instead of helping me in this matter, he
passed unwanted and indecent remarks regarding my dress. I felt
completely demoralised, helpless and humiliated.
Before sending the bus conductors onto their
job, the KSTC should give them thorough training in good manners, decency and
courtesy.

Sir
Through this letter I would like to draw your
kind attention to the inconvenience that the students of Grants Public School
are facing a lot these days.
There is shortage of state transport buses on
this route. This shortage is felt acutely in the morning hours. The 8 O'clock
state transport bus is usually late. Moreover, it does not stop at Grants
Public School. The erratic bus service has put a large of teachers and students
in great difficulty. They are often late for school.
Most of the students come from low income
groups. They can't afford t private vehicles or taxies. The only solution lies
in increasing the number the morning. The State Roadways can hire some private
buses and use them during the peak hours.

Sir
Through this letter I would like to draw your
kind attention to the poor sanitary conditions and mosquito-menace in Anna
Nagar.
It is unfortunate that Chennai Corporation is
adopting a step-motherly attitude. It is not providing civic amenities to the
Non-V.I.P. areas in the city. Colonies like Anna Nagar, are left to rot and
stink.
The Welfare Association, has been highlighting
the local issues before Chennai Corporation but in vain. Heaps of dirt keep
lying in the streets. The drains are open. They keep overflowing with garbage
and dirt. Due to non-availability of pure drinking water, the residents become
easy victims of water-borne diseases.
Last, but not the least, is the mosquito-menace.
The problem of water-logging remains as it is. Nor have any steps been taken to
spray insecticides or D.D.T. over the stagnant water. Every year hundreds of
residents suffer from malaria.
We hope Chennai Corporation will rise from its
slumber. It will take prompt remedial steps to make Anna Nagar, a colony fit
for human habitation.

Sir
Through this letter I would like to draw your
kind attention to the frequent power-cut and low voltage in Ganesh Bagh.
The residents of this area have not yet come out
of the dark ages. They are facing a lot of inconvenience and trouble due to the
erratic supply of power. During the peak summer months the temperature shoots
up to 40°C. This year Bangalore is witnessing an unprecedented heat-wave.
Residents of the area have to spend sleepless and uneasy nights. Students are
the worst sufferers. They can't study at night even during their examinations.
The low voltage has been a perpetual problem in this area. The uneven
fluctuations of voltage damage electric appliances very often.
Ganesh Bagh Welfare Association has been raising
this issue with the concerned authorities. Nothing useful has been done so
far.
I request you once again on behalf of all the
residents of Ganesh Bagh, Bangalore to regulate the supply of power in the
area.

Sir
Through this letter I would like to draw your
kind attention to the recent move to convert an open and well maintained park
into a shopping complex. It has shocked the residents of Nehru Nagar.
The Rose Park is the only open space in Nehru
Nagar, Bhopal. It was meant for the residents and children of our area. It is
the central place where residents occasionally meet in the evenings. Yoga
classes are held in the morning. Students can be seen studying under 'neem' and
'peepal' trees during the examinations. Children and old people spend most of
their leisure time there.
I suggest an alternate space for the
construction of a shopping complex. It is quite spacious and away from the
residential area. It would in no way harm the landscape and environment. It
will also save a precious green-belt in the bargain.

Sub : Arrangements to Store Rain Water
The residents of Vasant Vihar have faced an acute shortage of water during summer season. This year was exceptionally hot and a lot of water was needed for quenching thirst, bathing, cooking and other basic household needs like washing clothes, utensils etc. The shortage of water caused a lot of problems and turned people's life to a virtual hell. The rainy season is at hand. You are requested to make arrangements to store rain water and utilise it during the lean periods of water supply.
Moreover, awareness should be created among the
people, by distributing pamphlets, advertisements in newspaper, T.V. etc. to
save water. Practical demonstrations of 'Rain Harvesting' will prove an
educative step. Posters on ‘Water is Precious' and 'Water is Life' may be
displayed at important places. I hope my suggestions will find favour with you.

Sub: Poor sanitary conditions and mosquito menace in Periyar Road
Through this letter I want to draw your kind attention towards the poor sanitary conditions our locality - Periyar Road. It seems that the cleaners have forgotten the this locality on the civic map of Chennai. Heaps of rubbish are lying here and there with flies swarming around and pigs wallowing in the filth and mud caused by the overflow of dirty water from the drains on to the road. The drains are choked as they are neither cleaned nor flushed.
The dirty water collects on the road forming
cesspools of filthy water. There are also many pits on the roads which are full
of drain water. All these serve as breeding places for mosquitoes. The mosquito
menace is so intense in our locality that we have to use anti mosquito sprays,
mats and aerosols to have undisturbed sleep for a couple of hours.
You are requested to pay a surprise visit to the
locality and judge the state yourself. Kindly take some immediate and effective
steps to improve the sanitation and rid us from the menace of mosquitoes.
Hoping for a favourable action.

Through this letter I would like to draw your kind attention towards the increasing incidents of eve-teasing and crimes against women and young girls in your area
The anti-social elements are having a field day
in our area. Minor incidents of stealing, pick-pocketing and robberies have
become a part and parcel of civic life. What has shocked the sensibility of the
youth is the ever increasing trend in disrespect towards women in general and
young girls in particular. Clusters of young boys can be seen standing in
groups at public places like bus-stops, street-corners, park entrances etc.
When a young girl or a couple of girls happen to pass near them, they
invariably subject them to verbal abuse, filthy remarks and obscene gestures. The
vagabonds indulge in eve-teasing and molestation. Even grown up ladies are
targeted and indecent remarks are passed at them.
It is requested that frequent police patrolling
must be ensured in the area. Stringent action should be taken against the
offenders and law-breakers.

Sub : Supply of Proper Drinking Water
Through his letter I would like to draw your kind attention to the plight of our locality. Being one of the oldest ones of the city splendid, it is perhaps the most neglected one too.
The water pipelines and sewer pipelines were
laid about one hundred years ago. They intersect one another at many vital
points. It seems that there is some leakage. For the last two days the drinking
water supplied to the colony seems to be polluted. It emits a very foul smell.
Some samples of this contaminated water are enclosed herewith for analysis at
the government laboratory.
May I add that polluted water is patently
harmful to the health and well-being of the citizens. I, therefore, request you
to order an immediate checking of the pipelines. Till proper drinking water
supply is restored, you are requested to send tankers of potable water in the
morning and evening to help the dwellers satisfy their needs.
I do hope you will provide our colony with
proper drinking water facilities.
