Should Wizard Hit Mommy ?
Q. 1. Why was Roger Skunk's mommy angry on seeing his
smelling like roses ?

Ans. On having the rose smell Roger Skunk was very happy. But
his mother got angry as soon as she learnt about it. She asked Roger Skunk who
had done that. Roger told about the Wizard. She took an umbrella in her hand
and took Roger to the wizard. Though Skunk pleaded that other animals would not
play with him but she said she did not care. She hit the wizard right over the
head. The wizard changed Roger Skunk into its foul smell back again.
Q.2. What made Jo feel that the story was over ?
Ans. Jack was telling her a story about a stinking Skunk,
who was teased by other animals for his bad smell. He felt hurt and lonely
because no body played with him. He went to a wise owl and he sent him to the
Wizard. The Wizard changed the stinky Skunk into a Skunk smelling of roses. Now
all the animals started playing with him and he felt happy and joyful. Jo
thought that it was a happy end of the story.

Ans. When Roger Skunk's mommy came to know of the new smell of Roger Skunk, she
got angry. She resented it sternly. She took an umbrella in her hand and went
to see the Wizard. She hit the Wizard right over his head. The wizard changed
Roger Skunk into its foul smell. Now Roger Skunk had no smell of roses. He began
to smell very bad again.

Ans. The Wizard changed Roger Skunk into its foul smell
back. The mother was much elated and they returned home. They heard the train
whistle bringing Dady Skunk home from Boston. Then they had a nice supper. When
Roger Skumk was in bed, Mommy Skunk hugged him showered affection.

Ans. In Jack’s view the elders are always right. He wants
that the children obey their parents at all cost. He thinks that the only
mother Skunk knows what is good or bad for her son. Since, the baby Skunk loves
his mother more than anything else so it is correct that Wizard should not hit
the mommy.

Ans. Jack feels himself to be caught in an ugly middle
position on the point whether the children should be allowed to have free
choice for their career or the parents should impose their moral codes on them.
The narrator Jack does not want to tell a story in which a mother gets beaten
or insulted. He wants to impose Jo that elders are always right.

Ans. An adult is mature and thought provoking. He can make
the best judgement of things. He has his own moral values and prejudices. On
the other hand, a child is immature. He hasnot worldly experience. He doesn’t
judge thing in a right direction.

Ans. The story raises the issue whether the parents should
be allowed to impose their authority over their children or the children have
the freedom to work according to their own choice. Here the mother of Skunk did
not allow her son Skunk for the rose smell so that other animals might play
with him.

the story. She wanted her father to tell the story that the wizard hit the
mommy.
